Snowball Dance

Curtain Making Bigger Snowballs by PDXFirefly
When I redid my patio last summer I hung gossamer curtains for a romantic effect. I particularly enjoy watching the wind blow through the curtains even in the winter.
It was last week and our first storm was about to roll through. It had been very windy and quite cold for several hours, the snow was just starting and I was sitting by the fireplace enjoying the changes when I noticed something unusual about my patio curtains.
There were little white things hanging from the bottom of the curtains that I had not put there. Careful inspection revealed that they had little white balls on the bottom of them! Snowballs!! But How??? Who did that? There were no footprints (or pawprints) in the new snow, so no mortal did this thing. How did this happen? I just could not imagine how those little white snowballs got on the bottom of those curtains.
Then I sat and observed what the wind was doing. As a gust would come up, it would blow the curtain around. As the curtain danced around the patio, the very corners would gently touch the snow that had just started falling. It was this “wind-dance ” that created the beginnings of a tiny snowball. And as every child who ever made a snowman knows, you just keep rolling that little snowball in the snow to make it bigger as snow attracts snow. This is what was happening on this windy, snowy day.
And so, the wind and the curtain combined forces with the snow to make a delightful “Snowball Dance”. It was the best Snowball Dance I had attended since High School!
