Mt Hood

On my daily errand trips around town, I often see majestic Mt. Hood, Oregon’s highest point, off in the far distance. There is some sort of a strange optical illusion that occurs as I am driving because the closer I get to the mountain, the smaller it appears. I think it has something to do with the fact that the road I am driving on is higher farther away and lower in elevation the closer you get to Mt. Hood.
The other afternoon, I could not help but notice how beautiful that deadly mountain looked. It was overcast where I was but the sun was shining on the distant snow covered mountain. Because it was late in the day and the sun was at a low angle, there were great beautiful interesting shadows across the west face of the peak with the darkened ridges sharply accented even more than they are in this photo.
