Passover & Easter
Passover began last night and Easter is right around the corner… this Sunday. This week is Holy Week for Christians around the world culminating on Good Friday and then rejoicing at the Resurrection of Our Lord on Sunday.
Just to refresh your memory, Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the first Friday after the first full moon after the Spring solstice. And it was a full moon last night and almost full tonight!!
Have a Happy Easter!

Easter Eggs
I have two previous posts related to hard boiled eggs. The one posted on 10/18/08 tells you how to hard boil eggs. The recipe for curried deviled eggs was posted on 1/31/09. You may want to use this recipe to make deviled eggs after the kids find all those hard boiled eggs you colored.
The easiest way to access these recipes is to just click on “recipes” on the right side of my blog under “categories”. Or you can type the date into my search box and the post will come up for you. You can also type eggs into my search box and then click on the title to access the posts. Have an eggstravaganza day!

Ash Wednesday
“Ash Wednesday” by Carl Spitzweg: the end of Carnival.
Today is Ash Wednesday — the end of Carnivale and the beginning of the Lenten season. The word Lent comes from the idea that the days are now begining to ”lengthen”. And here in Oregon, that is only good news!
Lent is the 46 days prior to Easter — 40 days if you do not count the Sundays – and is actually determined by the date of Easter. Now…determining the date of Easter… that is a complicated and interesting formula which I’ll go into in a later post.
For more than you ever thought you wanted to know about Lent go to these two web sites! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lent and http://www.cin.org/users/james/files/lent.htm
